• Blogging for Fair Havens 2009 was a huge success!
  
  The 5th Annual Blogging for Fair Havens was a new face at this year's Rock the Desert Event. Jimmy Patterson, Editor of MyWestTexas.com, and this year's winner of the Nonprofit Management Center's Beacon Award, once again braved the heat and climbed atop the Shorty's Rental scissor lift in order to raise awareness for Midland Fair Havens.
  
  Many attendees stopped by to inquire about the mission of Midland Fair Havens, to collect information and goodies, register for the mailing list, bid on the donated Plasma television, even youngsters stopped by to color a page with the scripture of Jeremiah 29:11 (see below). Our visitors were also very curious as to what Jimmy was doing two-stories up!
  
  We are especially grateful to Jimmy Patterson who continued his mission for Midland Fair Havens soon after the passing of his beloved father, Pat. Jimmy writes:
  
  "In accepting the Non Profit Management Center's Beacon Award, it was an honor to be recognized by some of the finest people in West Texas. Any other year the first thing I would have done after this would have been to call my dad and tell him about my day, liked I'd done so many times since I was a kid. And he would always tell me how proud he was of me. My dad died the week before this year's Blogging for Fair Havens.
  
  Every year before this year, he would write a small check to help out Fair Havens and he would always call me in the middle of the evening during the event just to see how I was holding up. My dad taught me everything I know about how to do good for others. Really and truly, if it weren't for him, there would be no Blogging for Fair Havens, and so this wonderful Beacon Award, given by some of the most charitable-minded, faith-filled people I have had the pleasure to be associated with, I dedicate to the wonderful memory of my dad, Harold 'Pat' Patterson. Thank you, daddy, for everything you taught me."
  
  Thank you to all who participated in this year's Blogging for Fair Havens and making helping to spread the word of this ministry and helping single mother's achieve their goals.
